New Year’s Eve - so long, 2017!

How is it possibly the last day of the year? I feel like I say that every December 31st, but this year it seems to ring especially true. It’s been a BIG year! Big fun, big love, big growth, and BIG plans for the future! Let’s take a little stroll down 2017’s Memory Lane at a few of our favorite things!

Our market tour this year was so. much. fun. Seriously, what a dream life to spend the day working with so many wonderful people! Our vendors are such beautifully dedicated, hardworking people, and we’ve gotten to grow with them over the year! From products to personalities to booth design to passion, frustration, and joy, there's just nothing better than witnessing small business owners do what they do best!

Truly, farmhouse style and vintage decor have been on the scene for... forever? Yes, forever! But certain trends stuck out in 2017! Some may fade for a while, while others will find a place in 2018 and beyond.

Chippy and shabby/shabby chic were HUGE this year! Occupying a theme we might once have called “distressed” the chippy and shabby looks sort of up the game. Whether authentic or fabricated, this look is here to stay because, guys? It’s real cute.

Bright color splashes were all over the place! Especially in shades of turquoise and green, we’ve been seeing beautifully bold and bright decor in pieces like sideboards, sconces, and seating (my personal fave)! Whether you pair your splash of color with neutrals and whites, or use it as contrast in a bold palette, this is a great way to create eye-catching focal points in your home. This is one we expect to continue seeing, but in a more muted fashion - stay tuned!

Ok, you can’t go anywhere this year without finding velvet. Whether it’s your new velvet jumpsuit you couldn’t help snagging on your target run (what? don’t judge...) or maybe a pair of mauve velvet wingback chairs, it’s EVERYWHERE. And really, we don’t hate it! It harkens back to antique luxury, but 2017’s designers are bringing it into the modern scene with fun colors and prints. Pretty sure velvet isn’t going anywhere any time soon!

Vintage and industrial metalwork has been one of the coolest things I’ve seen in 2017! So many of our vendors have either procured true vintage items with the charm of age and rust to boot, or created vintage-inspired signage and decor that lends the feel of the originals and shows off a unique skill set at the same time.

Industrial metals... be still my heart. Shelving, light fixtures (often with the beautiful addition of Edison bulbs) and more have found a solid home in the 2017 Markets, and I can’t wait to see them continue to inspire decorators!

The BIGGEST trend I’ve seen in 2017, and one I hope continues without end, is the shift toward community. As these markets grow and expand, the opportunity to meet and get to know new people is a constant and beautiful reminder of the fact that this all happens and works because of YOU. Whether you’re a vendor, a customer, a browser, or a reader, thank you for being part of the Rebel Junk family in 2017. Here’s to the close of one chapter, and a fresh step into a new year!
